About the Philips DreamStation & Other Recalled Respironics
On October 15 2015, Philips launched the DreamStation. This machine was created to treat sleep and respiratory disorders—it includes a:
- CPAP
- BiPAP
- Ventilator
However, on June 14th, 2021, the DreamStation was recalled along with 17 other Philip respironic machines.
Why Were Philips CPAP, BiPAP, and Ventilator Machines Recalled?
Philips issued a voluntary recall of their CPAP, BiPAP, and ventilator machines when it was discovered that the sound-reducing foam:
- Degrades and breaks down into black particles. These particles can then be swallowed by the user.
- Exposes the user to dangerous and potentially carcinogenic chemicals that can be inhaled during the use of the product.
The breakdown of this foam can cause serious injury or illness, such as cancer; these issues can worsen with the use of unapproved cleaning methods, high-heat, and high-humidity.
